TELECOMMUNICATIVE REGRET.

EPIPHANY: 42% of the year, my life is wasted on Facebook.

It needs to stop. Some might even call this some sort of addiction. I've tried to quit many times, however, it keeps pulling me back in.

I check it morning, night, before a movie, after a movie, sometimes during. Before breakfast, while I eat breakfast. Before I start work, after, during. ALL THE TIME I CAN STEAL WHILST DOING SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE!
I leave a tab open to it if my browsers open (which it is most of the time).

I get notified by Blackberry, when it is charged and gets signal.

When I get bored I keep scrolling down that 'Home' page till I find something entertaining or interesting.

Then it hits me - I spend about more than 10 hours a day on the internet, on facebook, twitter, skype, youtube, blogger, picyou, and all my bookmarked artsy sites.

MORE THAN 10 HOURS.

That's an average of 3700 hours (plus a few hours here and there) a year out of the 8760 hours in a year, that's almost 42% of the year WASTED on the internet (unlimited Internet + line rental = £44/month).

In a year I'm spending about £560 (plus the hourly calls I make to mobile phones) a year on internet and my phone line.
Not to mention the £25-50 (Medium average £38) on my mobile (1GB Internet + calls, International calls costing a fortune/minute), which means I'm spending:
£456/year on mobile + £560 on phone line and Internet = £1016 on telecommunications.
WHAT THE F_CK, I COULD BUY A 2ND HAND 1980's VESPA FOR THAT OR SOMETHING CHARITABLE THAT WOULD ACTUALLY CHANGE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

Too much money wasted on devices enabling idle activities. I blame myself for this, and all the decisions made up to the point of my realisation, and due to the crisis of economy and the fact my minimum wage can't withstand the weight of idle internet blogging, I must withdraw back into the real world and do what is necessary.

1. I like Michael Fassbender.
2. I like good filming and directing.
3. I went to see 'Shame'.

In one sentence: soft porn for the public.

It really pushed the limits of 18-rated movies at venues such as Cineworld.

Lots of genitalia, silence and intense moments. The funny thing was, no one walked out in shock, horror or disgust.
Instead just myself exiting the premises, giggling when a dialogue involved some very dirty talk in one of the near-the-end scenes.

I dare say I was on the edge of my seat, despite the silent scenes.

I was only able to see an hour or so before having to rush to work, so I'm going to have to see it again this weekend.
Let's say, I'm more than willing to pay 2x to see this movie, not only for the subliminal amounts of 'arousal', but for the very fact I enjoy watching films on taboo, this one exploring the sexuality of the modern day bachelor.

There was also this part where MF's character gets down and dirty with a woman from work, who he so happens to go out on a date with, who does the dirty, but fails in engaging in the act, whether this was an exploration of race, or the fact he engaged in somewhat of an intellectual conversation with this woman.

His sister is the antagonist in the movie and the dialogue between them remind me of the spiteful fights and I have with my own brother. But as she enters his life out of the blue, he is unable to perform his wicked ways in the safety of his own privacy - which the entire audience has now been oogling from the beginning.

The absence of music gives it that intensity and focus on the events rolling.

There's one scene where his sister (Sisi) is singing a piano-vocal slow jazz version of New York, New York, with full focus on her singing the entire song, with shots back at her brother (Brandon) releasing a tear or two. This is a special moment for the siblings - except when she ends up sleeping with Brandon's boss, who's married with kids... but there seems to be no shame...

The social aspects of it were depicted quite well, 'addiction' to porn, relationships, sexuality, promiscuity etc.

In many ways it reminded me of 'Last Night' with Kiera Knightley and Sam Worthington (from Avatar) and the drama of relationships going wrong, and cheating, and what it is to cheat, why and with whom, and getting caught.

My love to watch movies surpasses my knowledge to truly understand film, but my love is there.

I got a graphics tablet.

It's a Wacom Intuous 4, Medium. It cost me a leg and maybe my pinky toe off my right foot. I use that alot.
Anyway, these are my first little doodles with it.
I'm still trying to get round using Adobe Illustrator, but using Doodler from the Bamboo Apps.
It's taken me 2 years and one month since my very first use of one, which belonged to a friend back when I was at ECA.

Irony: it makes sense.

This taste, it is the dire unsatisfaction and hunger. The anticipation for quench and a fullness that urges no demands or expectations after it. Content, yet rich, positioning in the perfect sleep session.
This taste is tinfoil that is not rid of with spitting it out, or rinse out with using mouth wash, nor with the consumption of a sweet beverage, nor a kiss from a lover can remove this.
This now eggy, cheesy, fungus manifesting fume resides in your gullet, and in your belly.
For a moment, you think of your favourite food.
For a moment...
Suddenly, all you can think of is the maggots that will pour out of the fat fleshy degrading remains, should someone dig up your corpse, (thus being one of the main reasons you may as well not take up any more space on the earth and be cremated, if you have remembered to put away funds for the funeral) and all you can think about is how awful that would be for your bodysnatcher to see. You'd never want anyone to see you that way.
As you are of course a organ donor, it is possible that your eventual death is at the operating table for which your organs are being spliced and cut-clean from your existence. You can not have these back. But someone else will have them. Someone who will utilise your heart or liver or kidney for the better use of playing a sport you wish you could, or devour food and drink in a hotel for a night that cost as much as your annual salary, or to love a person, who shared laughs and friends, kisses and hugs, pets and money, a house and children, a person, who would love them back just as much.
This taste, is none so sweet, as the taste of glory... in the completion of my DIY wardrobe.

I turn 21 in a couple of days. I'm feeling rather nostalgic.

I wrote this as a subliminal message to people who, like Incubus have mentioned in a song (Blood on the Ground) where "hearing your voice is like chewing tin-foil". Ek. This song has inspired me, subconsciously as I have mentioned a cause for blood on the ground - scattered broken glass on the floor, like the remains of a broken 'glass heart'. I am not a romantic, though I wish to be, but I only feel the drums, I do not see them.

If you've ever chewed tin-foil, the taste is like having blood in your mouth, and not black pudding.

I am very lazy and chose to throw this about everywhere. It's not a poem, just free-style... a bit like the attention of my thoughts. Mum, Dad, comment on my FB statuses why don't you?

...is exactly how the movie was - incredibly intense. Peaks were high as the adrenalin shot up as I had my near-death-experience-scream-pounce on my dear friend Neil who is screaming like a 4 year old girl right beside me.

Several movies come in into play:

The Exorcist

Dead Silence

The Amityville Horror 2005 [Yes, let's all look away from the sweaty oh so frightening Ryan Reynolds with an axe... spooky ;) ]

It will live on as a Classic for me staying close to the very foundations of the horror movie genre and ultimately - SCARRED THE LIVING ^$%@%$&%$ OUT OF ME!

From the screeching discorded violins and shrieks, to the play on surprising scary faces appearing in mirrors, reaching into everyone of us with our childish fears of the boogie monsters poltergeists and ghosts.

The Fire Demon is just about the scariest manifestation I've encountered, even though people keep mentioning it to look like Darth Maul, I know they were just trying to geek up the F_*&%er as to b*sterdize this Fire Demon's potential infliction upon future nightmares. It's *^$^&%$@ing scary and you know it.

Normally, I am quite cynical about horror movies in a sense that I try to over-come the fears in scary movie, like monsters, deviants of another dimension and the dark.

As a child, I remember my parents fell asleep and my brother and I stayed up to watch Chucky proclaiming that neither of us were such 'scare-dy cats'. After seeing that, it made me hide my dolls away for as long as I can remember, before allowing Barbie to become my best friend again.

Possession and superstition was another element from the supernatural that has played a big part in striking fear in our blessed hearts through those cine-screens. It wasn't a case of Big Guns upstairs leaving the building, abandoning the possibilities of our saviour for our souls like The Exorcist. It did share the idea of twisting something or someone so innocent to having the connection of something malicious and malevolent.

But this was worse than a child's play thing that possesses the soul of a murderer. Yes, there a bit of spirit calling and all the rest of it, but you know what really gets me? That idea that our souls are lingering energy that haunt when we 'leave' our bodies.

If you've seen the Zeitgeist, then you may have also watched Esoteric Agenda or Kymatica by Ben Stewart who directed and narrated Zeitgeist. SOMEHOW I have this lingering belief about the ideas, but I'm cynical about the cynic's views.

Throughout time, science has made sense of all the supernatural and strange events that have happened over the existence of mankind, but as is, not everything is justified with the facts. What scares me the most about death? What then?

And if it were to be a damnation or a loss of life, what is fear and nothingness after that?

BACK TO THE MOVIE

So the old woman that haunts the Dad, Josh, reminds me of Mary Shaw in Dead Silence. Seeing that on the big screen was frightening. But so are feminists.

The Amityville Horror and it's demented and murderous family. Ryan Reynolds, is loveable even when possessed with the voices x)

Someone once told me, it doesn't matter what little you have. Rather what you do to do more with what you have.

For years (approximately 5 or so since I became aware of a Wacom tablet and Adobe Illustrator) I've been envious of those with top notch programs and editing software. Still am.

But I figured, ach, what the noose. I'll use msPaint!

Also, since it's summer, and it's that time of year flowers germinatate, fertilise, reproduce and disperse, thought I'd share some weed seeds with you....This may be one of the most terrifying things that happen in a garden on a sunny day and there's no BBQ's, or sharp objects or children running about...

That's a bee btw... increase cup size, naturally.

MANNING UP AND READING UP ON FOOD LITERACY.

A phrase at which I dispose of my overly emotional ways and nut up.

Also, for the past 2 weeks, I've been 'getting fit' gradually. I know it doesn't sound like much to be doing 20 push-ups and 20 situps a day, but since day one, been gradually finding it enjoyable when (potential) muscles ache. Today is the 2nd day of my mile run. Yesterday 17 minutes after work from a bus stop I normally have to walk to (takes under 30 minutes).

Always 10 more! Just up to the traffic lights, come on!

Last time I ever had my heart racing out of breath was running late to something... but after an epiphany, I've found getting fit and healthy hurt no one.

This may be a phase that'll frazzle out in the next couple of months - hopefully not, as I am feeling quite awesome.

But if my cousin can, so can I!

That's my cousin Juel Pantallano, who lives in Australia.

I thought dieting on just veg and fruit would do the trick, but I just ate more, and sometimes... ate a burger, so increased amount of veggies and more exercise is my goal.

Why?

-Because my 22.5 BMI just isn't good enough for me.

►2000 calories GDA (Guidline Daily Amounts)
►Soreness is lactic acid build-up (glycosis - turning glucose to pyruvate which helps endurance and performance etc). Meaning PAIN IS NECESSARY.
►Sets. £$@%$!ing sets!
►Having a good imagination helps you forget the food you don't want to eat... Still working on imagining worms in a Big Mac... x(
►Meat wise, fish, and chicken. Not so much steak... eventhough I LOVE STEAK... Thought I'd do the veggie thing, but as much as I hate eating an animal once named Delilah or Daisy, only so much meat can be ignored.
►TOFU salad is awesome.

A bike once neglected, will soon be taken out once more! Weather should get better. I say, should.

They're three sisters: Neil, Sven and Marsbar. I named them because I presumed they were male, but stuck with the names because there's no discrimination in the land of rainbows and the hammie munch they love so much. My flatmate named the most human-friendly one Marsbar.

Since then, I've been bitten twice. But other than that, they love me when I give them popcorn. ♥

ANTIQUE VS. VINTAGE

So today I bought a Oliver Typewriter No.9. It was made and patented 1894.

It was lurking in the depths of the basement of the Cancer Research UK charity shop I work in part-time.
Donated money and now I have a rusty old WORKING typewriter! x)
Of course I weigh use of both the Imperial Good Companion Model 5, Vintage 1960.

Gave the Imperial a good cleaning with some WD-40. Felt pretty manly buying that earlier.

I'm no mechanic, but I'm finding it pretty cool de-screwing (ha) the Imperial for now and cleaning it. Also trying to find a way to fix the (pardon the ignorance in jargon) spool lever thingy. Rather, I'm at the point where I've de-assembled enough to know how to get there to fix the darn thing.

Ordered more ribbon (ink) for the typewriters, should be typing away by next week.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TYPEWRITING:
What's ironic is the fact that I'm telling you this electronically, through the web. We send messages out there that takeno longer than a second or a millisecond, and sometimes if not all, we send the same generic message out there to hundreds... millions... Everything comes and goes so quickly.
The action between typing on a laptop or computer is no different to that of typing on a typewriter (considering both are a QWERTY keyboard). The difference is time, speed, touch, sound and electricity (or lack thereof). A typewriter does not require electricity, therefore ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY:) Then again, it did come from the Industrial age, which if by theory is partially the reason for the so called pollution and excess carbon dioxide in present day.
The basic-ness of being able to record something through a matter of 'print' seems more organic, such as handwriting, but faster and without identity... so if you get a typewritten letter professing my hopeless romance and love for you for Valentine's Day, and the letter smells of dust 100 years old, it's not me :)
Sure you could reproduce the same thing on the computer and print it out through laserjet or deskjet etc etc, but with every letter you type, you write history. There's an enigma about not just the print, but the little impression with every hit.

OH THE VIOLENCE!

Normally I'm quite cynical and misanthropic about most things, but everyone has something to love :)

Besides, I tried baking cupcakes... and apparently, my baking sucks! That's a lie. I'm pretty awesome.

So in my hibernation, solitude and seeming inspirations, driven by madness, cabin fever, heartbreak and hopeless romance, murderous imaginations and twisted long sentences of things that may perhaps be OTT, I plan to type...

Found this on the Times website, after watching the interview with Mark Zukerberg, man of 2010. That man seems to be incapable of moving his forehead. Nontheless the father of my obsession.

I find this video hardly informative, but highly interesting. As a Filipino-Brit I find myself wondering WHERE MY PEEPS AT, or at least find myself in Glasgow wondering that. I think I'd be better off in Thailand or Hawaii somehow, or even some island in Micronesia. Sun, sand, tan, and some chilled blackberry juice and vodka...
It's so white out. And it's not even snowing...

Vintage tech, a wee fascination of mine.

Bought this vintage type writer on ebay. It's not perfect, spools movement is a bit messed, but with a gentle push, it's working fine. Somehow, I'll get it fixed! Found the gaurantee written of the original owner from 1960. Something beautiful about a 50 year old typewriter that works.

So I've always been very open minded about music. Call it bad/good, but I don't dress to look like a genre, merely dicriminate against bad frequencies.

As usual, I'm suffering a little insomnia, nothing too serious. Easily sorted with those youtube videos on relaxing and sleep, or a beer or glass of vino. But I'm no raging alcoholic. I am wearing my big pink glasses again.

Speaking of which, when I was in Edinburgh, going to art college and all the rest of it, someone decided to leave messages on the door of every floor where a female/females reside. It read

Panic. 'Which one?!', I thought. Inevitably, through the powers of high-tech communications and facebook, I found out it was a prank/joke/project by realising I wasn't the only one. The more twisted they are, the more creative. Love it.

Also, great news about my Dad. The stage 4 colon cancer is now stabilized, and has not got worse since chemotherapy. I'm eternally grateful for the NHS and the contribution that Cancer Research has made to the very hospital that my Dad was treated. Major big ups to my pop for being a fighter and staying strong ♥
